Green Buffalo.

Project Overview

Our project began as a mission to use the bayou as an energy source. During the design phase, the team thought of how innovative it would be to be able to clean the bayou and use it as a source of transportation. By researching cleaning methods, current transportation on the bayou, and why the bayou is actually toxic, the team members aimed to talk to experts and research each of their selected topics. We divided research into three subgroups, with one researching cleaning methods for the bayou, the second researching environmentally friendly transportation, and the other researching cost of infrastructure for transportation and employees.

Research brought many insights into the feasibility and positive impact the project could have and inspiration grew with the project becoming second nature. Anyone who has a passion for experiencing nature and preserving the environment is most likely to fully support the addition of the Green Buffalo Transit System to the Buffalo Bayou in the city of Houston. Blending cleaning efforts and transportation ideas into one overall concept results into many opportunities to benefit the environment locally. It is rare that a Houstonian ever gets to enjoy their commuting experience off a highway, and also be a part of efforts to clean and purify water. The project could also lead the charge to spreading sustainability awareness to the younger generation or any citizens of Houston that wish to become more aware on how the can be part of efforts to help the environment. The team strongly believes that Green Buffalo Transit System is an innovative idea that is long overdue.

As an urban waterway, Buffalo Bayou is especially vulnerable to low water quality. The condition of the bayou's waters has long been a topic of concern in Houston.

Houston freeways are heavily traveled and often under construction to meet the demands of continuing growth.
